LM2576 Based DC-DC Converter
Posted Jan 17, 2012 at 9:29 am
The LM2576 DC-DC converter uses switching control t reduce the input DC voltage on average as it operates on the switching mode power supply. This is equivalent to a lower input voltage resulting in minimum heat dissipated. The control results in better regulated output, less energy wasted through heat, and the use for high current application. DC-DC converters are getting smaller nowadays and come in the TO-220 package.
The use of inductor is required in the interfacing of most DC-DC IC. The device is a simple DC-DC step-up converter where the typical LED requires about 2V to operate. A 1.5V battery can be used to drive the circuit. The oscillating circuit is formed by the transistor and generates pulsing output. Since the switching is quite fast, the pulsing output cannot be seen on the LED.
The circuit is tested to draw 1A using 5Ohm 50W resistor as the load. Various LM series IC chip can be tested using a multi-purpose board.
